SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY FRESHMAN SELECTED TO PERFORM WITH INTER-COLLEGIATE HONOR BAND

FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Freshmen Biochemistry major Kristen McIntire has been selected to perform with the New England Inter-Collegiate Band (NEIB) on Saturday, April 1, 2006. Kristen, a tuba player, was selected based on an audition tape that she submitted to perform with this select ensemble.

The concert will take place at Gordon College in Wenham, MA.  “This is a great opportunity for Kristen and for Sacred Heart University,” said Keith Johnston, director of Bands at SHU. “Kristen will be performing alongside music majors from such colleges as Brown, Dartmouth and Yale. I expect that she will learn a lot very quickly,” he continued.

The event is sponsored by the New England College Band Association, of which SHU is a member. Kristen will be the first musician from Sacred Heart University to perform with the NEIB.

“We have been working hard over the years to grow the SHU Band program both in terms of numbers and quality. Kristen's selection is an acknowledgement of our growth, and I'm very proud of her,” said Johnston.

The NEIB will be under the direction of renowned wind band conductor Dr. Mark Davis Scatterday, conductor of the world famous Eastman Wind Ensemble at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.

Kristen, who hails from Avon, Conn., minors in music at Sacred Heart University. In addition to her performances with the Concert Band, Pep Band, and Choir, she is also on the Women's Field Hockey Team.
