Our students are a diverse group of adults who come to Sacred Heart from all around the country. In our classes we have had students from as far as Bermuda, Florida and Delaware and as near as Rhode Island, New York and Massachusetts. Our students are males and females, young and old, living at home with their family and living in their own home with their children. They have ranged in age from 22 to 47 and approximately 12% have children of their own. Our students come from varied ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds and our program prides itself in being accomodating for the adult learners who enroll.
Comments from our out-of-state students:
"During the summer before my senior year at the University of Delaware, I began looking for graduate programs in occupational therapy. Although I loved my experience at Delaware, I was determined to find a program that was in vast contrast to my undergraduate experience. Instead of the large lecture halls and nameless status, I wanted my graduate program to offer small class sizes and personable relationships with professors. After extended hours on the computer and countless phone calls, Sacred Heart University's Graduate Program in Occupational Therapy became the answer to my demands. In the summer of 2004, therefore, I moved over 200 miles to begin my life in Fairfield, Connecticut. Although this was huge life adjustment, my fellow graduate students, the professors in the program, and SHU's small campus community helped make my transition a successful one. Now, almost two years later, it seems surreal that I will be leaving Connecticut behind and restarting my life in Delaware. However, I leave feeling confident in my education, proud to be able to call my friends and professors in the program colleagues, and fortunate that I made the decision to come to Sacred Heart University's Program in Occupational Therapy." - Megan A.
