Dr. Balbir B. Bhasin is the Associate Professor of International Business. He turned to teaching after having been in international business for 19 years and in government for 10 years. He was previously President of Pacific American Bancorp and C.E.O. of Asia-Pacific Institute of Management Development, a company doing business in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, China, South Africa and Australia.
He taught previously at Ashland University in Ohio and Eckerd College in Florida and is presently Visiting Professor at Reykjavik University in Iceland where he teaches “Business and Markets in Asia” at their M.Sc. in International Business program. He is also a Consultant with Evalueserve Circle of Experts, and The Gerson Lehrman Group, New York.
He is also a Researcher with the Centre for Comparative Water Policies and Law (CCWPL) at the University of South Australia and has been on the Advisory Board of the Human Resource Institute (HRI) at the University of Tampa since 2000. He was previously on the Advisory Committee for Trade and Investment to Sri Lanka.
Dr. Bhasin is a true internationalist. He is multi-lingual and multi-cultured. His education encompasses five systems: American, Asian, British, Canadian and Australian. He holds a Ph.D. in Management and International Business from the University of South Australia in Adelaide and the Master of International Management (M.I.M.) degree (with distinctions) from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona.
His research interests have focused on globalization through international trade and investment, the cultural implications of international business, developing international entrepreneurship, and optimizing the use of scarce human and natural resources. His recent research publications have been on Foreign Direct Investment, Culture in Entrepreneurship, Transparency and Governance in Free Trade, Global Resources Law and Policy and Asian Monetary Union. His current focus is on and Cross Cultural Management and Social Engineering to Promote Economic Development.
