LUCJAN T. ORLOWSKI, PH.D., PROFESSOR
Dr. Lucjan T. Orlowski is professor of economics and international finance in the Department of Economics and Finance. Since receiving his Ph.D. from the Karol Adamiecki University of Economics in Katowice, Poland in 1979, he has taught at his Alma Mater, at New York University, the University of Notre Dame and the University of Warsaw.

Dr. Orlowski is a Senior Fellow at the Center for European Integration Studies (ZEI) at the University of Bonn; a Senior Fellow at the Center for Economic and Social Research (CASE) in Warsaw; a Research Fellow at the William Davidson Institute (WDI) at the University of Michigan School of Business, and a Research Professor at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) in Berlin.

Professor Orlowski's research concentrates on monetary policy regimes and their impact on macroeconomic and financial stability in transition and emerging market economies. He has been actively involved with the European Union's eastern enlargement process and the design of monetary and financial integration strategies. He has coordinated the Phare ACE project sponsored by the European Commission, entitled "Monetary and Exchange Rate Strategies Related to the Current European Union's Enlargement Processes".

He has authored books, chapters in edited volumes and numerous articles in academic journals on monetary policy, exchange rates, interest rates, and international financial markets. His volume "Transition and Growth in Post-Communist Countries: The Ten-Year Experience", E.Elgar Publishing Inc.  was honored with the 2002 Choice Magazine Award for Outstanding Title of the Year.

Professor Orlowski serves on the Editorial Board of Comparative Economic Studies, is an Associate Editor of Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, a Regional Editor of Journal of Emerging Markets and a Guest Editor of Open Economies Review and Economic Systems.

He has been an Advisor to the National Bank of Poland and was an Advisor to the Finance Minister of Poland. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Center for Economic and Social Research in Warsaw. He served on the Advisory Board of the DRI-WEFA Group in Washington. He was a member of the 1990 U.S. Government Mission to Eastern Europe.

His awards and accomplishments include College of Business Research Award and Faculty Scholarship Awards; American Council on Education Fellowship; the Exxon Award for Academic Excellence and University Service; Fulbright Fellowship and Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award.
