AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR SCHULZ TO PRESENT HUMAN RIGHTS LECTURE AT SHU
Book signing to follow presentationFAIRFIELD, Conn.—Dr. William F. Schulz, executive director of Amnesty International will speak at Sacred Heart University on Wednesday, February 15, at 7 p.m. His presentation, “Tainted Legacy: 9/11 and the Ruin of Human Rights,” will take place in the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts on the Fairfield campus. The event is open to the public and is free of charge.
In his lecture, Dr. Schulz will focus on the effect the war on terror has had on current events, human rights and foreign policy. He will also talk about the importance of religious freedom and tolerance in today's day and age.
Dr. Schulz's latest book, TAINTED LEGACY: 9/11 And the Ruin of Human Rights (Nation Books; October 2003), examines the relationship between the growth of terror around the world and the violation of human rights.
Dr. Schulz, who is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister, was appointed Executive Director of Amnesty International (USA) in March 1994. During his years with Amnesty he has traveled extensively, both in the US and abroad. Throughout his career he has been outspoken in his opposition to the death penalty and his support for women's rights, gay and lesbian rights and racial justice.
A book signing will immediately follow Dr. Schulz's lecture. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
