Scriptures and Sacred Texts

How do Jews and Christians approach their Scriptures and sacred texts? Are certain texts problematic within one tradition or in the context of Christian-Jewish understanding? A shared encounter with Scripture can provide insights into the most central elements of the other tradition's identity and beliefs.

Question: Are you offended when a Christian uses the term "Old Testament?" -SB

Answer: Personally, I now understand that no conscious slight is meant by Christians using the word "old." However, I think it would go a long way if Christians would consider using the term Hebrew Bible or the more recent word, "TaNaK" (the acronym that stands for Torah--the books of Moses; Nevi'im--the Prophets; and Ketuvim--the writings) to highlight the scriptures' original Jewish context.
