It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Business Economics and Finance at the John F. Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University.
The Finance major provides students with the knowledge and skills required to apply the tools and techniques of financial management in all types of organizations. The curriculum of the Finance Major is designed to provide the students with an understanding of the mechanics of financial markets. The discipline focuses on financial analysis and the evaluation of investment opportunities and sources of capital. The students will gain analytical and problem solving skills in corporate finance, management of financial institutions, international finance, investments, and personal finance.
As a student in the John F. Welch College of Business you will be provided the opportunity to attend presentations by business experts and to participate in extracurricular experiential learning opportunities. Internships are widely available and strongly encouraged. We have a student run chapter of Students in Free Enterprise and participate annually in the Fed Challenge competition hosted by the New York Federal Reserve. Our graduates have accepted positions at corporations including General Electric, GE Capital, Citibank, First Investors, JP Morgan Chase, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Unilever, United Technologies and UBS.
Finance and Economics courses are offered by a knowledgeable and experienced team of professors who are active not only in the classroom but also through research, policy advising and consulting. The faculty collaborate with both domestic and international academic and research institutions, advise governments, serve on boards of directors and provide consulting and training to corporations and banks. Our scholarly accomplishments are shared with students, both in the undergraduate programs and in the MBA programs in Fairfield, Stamford and Luxembourg.
I am pleased to invite you to explore the Business Economics and Finance majors and I welcome you to our community of scholars.
