At the Jewish Center for Community Services (JCCS) on Park Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut, a group of Sacred Heart University athletes helped to begin construction on a new playground early in October 2002. With the Sacred Heart men's wrestling team and women's softball team on hand to help, construction began early on the $50,000 project. JCCS President Eli Kornreich attributed the progress to the Parent Committee's fundraising efforts, as well as to the young children in the Early Childhood Department class, who collected money themselves while learning about tzedakah (donations) and giving. Members of the sports teams said that this was an excellent opportunity to serve the community while bridging interreligious differences.
