UNIVERSITY BREAKS GROUND FOR NEW RESIDENCE HALLS

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday, September 13, for a three-building, three-story residence hall complex set to rise at 5252 Park Avenue, directly across the street from the main campus.

Following the blessing of site by the Rev. Andrew Garavel, S.J., Campus Minister, Joseph D. Roxe and Christopher K. McLeod, members of the University's Board of Trustees, assisted President Anthony Cernera in the ceremonial turning of the soil.

Resident Assistants Meghan Dodd and Charles Sousa, along with Student Government President Guy Savage, represented SHU's student body and also took part in the ceremony.

Each of the planned buildings will contain 12 suites, with six bedrooms housing 11 or 12 students. Each suite will include a living area, study lounge, kitchen, and two bathrooms. In addition, the buildings will have wireless network connectivity (Wi-Fi) capability.

Building “A,” closest to Park Avenue, will include a lower level featuring a fitness center, Building “A,” closest to Park Avenue, will include a lower level featuring a fitness center, cyber café, and storage area. The three residence halls will accommodate a total of 403 students and are scheduled for completion in September, 2004.
