LATIN AMERICAN ART ON DISPLAY THROUGH NOV. 6

The Gallery of Contemporary Art at Sacred Heart University opened its season with the work of 25 Latin American and Caribbean artists on Sunday, September 14.

The exhibit, titled "In the Realm of the Absurd," is curated by Nohra Haime of the Nohra Haime Gallery located on 57th St. in New York City. The exhibit presents a diverse group of artists who represent the different Latin American cultures within a culture. With a multitude of techniques, these artists talk about our thoughts--our present, past and future.

"In the Realm of the Absurd" features works by: Susana Jaime-Mena (Argentina), Lydia Azout, Adriana Carvahlo, Vik Muniz, Gabriela Machado, Daniel Senise (Brazil), Benjamin Lira, Francisca Sutil, Jorge Tacla (Chile), Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Oscar Muñoz, Maripaz Jaramillo, Nadin Ospina (Colombia), Jose Bedia, Juana Valdes (Cuba), Hugo Bastidas (Ecuador), Luis Gonzalez-Palma (Guatemala), Monica Castillo, Flor Garduno, Javier Marin, Betsabee Romero (Mexico), Ramiro Llona, Ana de Orbegoso (Peru), and Arnaldo Roche-Rabell (Puerto Rico).

The exhibit runs through November 6. Gallery hours are Noon to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (The Gallery will be closed Columbus Day weekend.)
