Although SHU is well below the national average in the number of campus incidents related to harmful drinking behavior, we feel our students' safety and well-being is foremost in importance. As such, it is incumbent upon us to pose the question "Are we doing all that we can to fortify our efforts to minimize alcohol harm?" AlcoholEdu delivers an effective means for helping students practice safe and healthy choices. As well, it provides the entire incoming class with a common baseline of knowledge and awareness of alcohol issues, and strengthens a shared set of campus norms and expectations around alcohol use.

Yes. All incoming students are expected to complete AlcoholEdu. Even if you don't drink, it's very likely that during your college experience you will know others who do. At the very least, alcohol use may be a topic of discussion among fellow students; the course includes material on managing peer pressure. As well, one of the purposes of the course is to provide the entire incoming class with a shared baseline of knowledge and awareness of alcohol issues, and to strengthen a shared set of campus norms and expectations around alcohol use.
