Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill

The Post 9/11 GI Bill is for qualified Servicepersons with at least 90 days of active service after September 10, 2001, or 30 days continuous if discharged for disability. Student may be eligible for the Yellow Ribbon program

If you have eligibility for the Post-9/11 GI Bill and any other GI Bill program you must make an irrevocable election of the Post-9/11 GI Bill before you can receive any benefits.

For approved programs, the Post-9/11 GI Bill provides up to 36 months of education benefits.

Transfer of Benefits from Another School:

  • Complete VA Form 22-1995 Request for Change of Program or Place of Training to transfer benefits to SHU.

Education Benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill

Tuition and fee payment
Sent directly to the school by VA.

Tuition is capped at the national maximum rate for a private institution at $23,671.94 for the 2018 - 2019 academic year. Sacred Heart participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program. Serviceperson’s at the 100% tier may be eligible.

Additional Benefits
Applicable to students eligible at the 100% tier. Benefits less than 100% will be prorated based on eligibility percentage by the VA.

  • Monthly Housing Allowance
    Sent to the student. Based on rate of pursuit calculated by the VA and the zip code of your school.
  • Books and Supplies Stipend
    Sent to the student. Yearly stipend of up to $1,000 based on enrollment.
