Photography Guidelines

The photography at Sacred Heart employs a journalistic style that richly illustrates the life of the University and its campus. A viewer should feel like they are witnessing or participating in an event and not intruding; therefore any photography used for Sacred Heart collateral should be authentic.  Every effort should be made to never use stock imagery.

In general, photography that is captured at Sacred Heart should be candid and not posed, except in the case of events where it is expected (i.e. honorary degrees at commencement, special academic convocations, Founder’s Day, etc.). There are many photographic styles represented in SHU’s image assets, so consider the viewers of the materials and the specific message.  Think about how the use of photography will deepen their connection with the story you are trying to tell them.

Below are samples of the types of photography we use.
