Sacred Heart University, in Fairfield, Connecticut, is searching for an innovative and visionary leader to serve as director of our physical therapy program. The director of the physical therapy program also serves as the chair of the Physical Therapy & Human Movement Science (PTMS) department. The PTHMS Department includes five academic programs: (1) athletic training and (2) exercise science at the undergraduate level and (3) physical therapy (DPT), (4) exercise science and nutrition (MS), and an advanced orthopaedic physical therapy certificate at the graduate level. Together, the programs enroll approximately 250 full-time undergraduate students and 200 full-time graduate students annually. Each program has a director and assigned support staff as well as dedicated faculty. The department has 22 full-time tenured/tenure track and clinical faculty members, four administrative staff and six clinical staff members. All academic program offices, labs and classrooms are housed at the Cambridge location of the University campus.
The director will work closely with the dean of the College of Health Professions and other directors of health professions programs. The PTHMS programs complement graduate programs in healthcare information systems, nursing, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology and a new proposed physician’s assistant program. The College also offers undergraduate programs in health sciences and nursing. In addition to academic excellence, the College has a rich tradition of service learning, study-abroad opportunities and faculty practice activities.

The candidate must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the State of Connecticut and demonstrate academic leadership experience in physical therapy education. An earned doctorate in a relevant field is required. The candidate should be comfortable in a highly interactive, inter-professional teaching/learning environment that includes collaborative teaching, significant faculty/student interaction and strong clinical integration. The ideal candidate will have a distinguished record of innovative and effective management as the chair or program director at an organization of similar size and complexity.
