Sacred Heart University recognizes the vital role research and other activities that nurture the educational and service responsibilities of the University play in its long-range plans. But the University is also aware that its limited resources cannot support the total costs of many worthy projects. Consequently, it must look to outside agencies--both public and private--for sources of funding for many of these projects.

A central clearinghouse for proposals and proposal writers at the University, the Office of Foundations and Grants exists to advise and assist the faculty and staff in the development of grant proposals to both public and private funding sources and in the administration of sponsored programs. Its ultimate goal is to secure additional funds to enable members of the University community to expand knowledge, to enhance teaching and service activities, to direct innovative projects and research, and to institute meaningful and progressive changes--activities consistent with the University's strategic plan.

Pre-Award.--The Office of Foundations and Grants maintains a resource library on grants and grantsmanship as well as files of program announcements and application kits for governmental and private sources. The office disseminates information to the faculty and administration via this web site, memos and personal contact. The office matches institutional and faculty interests with potential funders using the SPIN database, as well as manual searches; assists in program planning and proposal writing, including editing and budget preparation; processes proposals via internal review and sign-off procedures; and tracks proposals by maintaining a liaison with funders.

Post-Award.--The Office of Foundations and Grants negotiates grants and contracts, oversees administration of awards to ensure fulfillment of obligations and compliance with regulatory requirements, assists in preparing programmatic and fiscal reports, and coordinates the close-out of completed projects.

General Activities.--The Office of Foundations and Grants drafts institutional policies and procedures regarding sponsored programs and federal regulatory requirements, maintains records and reports regarding extramural funding, and monitors conformance with A-133 audit requirements.
