“My internship has been a positive experience for me because it has prepared me for a future career in the field of Human Resources. As my internship has continued my responsibilities have increased, and it has allowed me to independently grow into the role of an HR specialist. I obtained the internship through PioneerNetwork. It was close to school, paid, and I would not have been able to obtain it without the help of the Career Center and all of the services they offer to students.” – Katie, Psychology Major, Class of 2015
Internships, field placements, practicums and research opportunities allow students to gain real-world professional experience to complement their studies. These learning experiences are available to students in all majors at SHU, and many majors require an internship. Students receive one-on-one support from the Career Center in identifying and securing internships while also working with faculty, participating in on-campus recruitment and interviews and networking opportunities and utilizing online tools such as PioneerNetwork.
SHU’s location in Fairfield County means close access to the third-highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the U.S., world-class hospitals, Connecticut’s “creative corridor” of communications and design companies, nationally-ranked elementary and secondary schools and countless other sites for interns. Students often intern in nearby New York City, Boston and in their home cities during the summer.
