Why’d You Choose SHU?

During my visit, I was lucky to meet a lot of students and people I connected with that were just super nice and friendly overall. Whenever they spoke about SHU, I noticed an emphasis on potential, which was inspiring for me because I wanted to go somewhere where I knew I’d grow. SHU forced me to go out of my comfort zone and meet a lot of people, which I am grateful for. Some of the most special people in my life came from here.

What do you do now?

I run social media for a clothing brand, and I lead the magazine I founded my senior year, MUD, which brings relatable content that helps young people navigate what it means to be young today. In addition, I run the internship program for the magazine here at SHU and also teach FYS.

Advice to Underrepresented SHU Students

For me, SHU was all about going out of my comfort zone to find my people. At first, I felt like it’d be hard to find friends I felt connected to and who understood who I was and where I came from. By forcing myself to speak to strangers and go to social events on campus, I met other Latinx students who are still to this day some of my closest friends. It is intimidating at first, but it’s also incredible how everyone in college is always up to making new friends, so once you take that first step, it’s not as scary.
