Father Jerry Ryle

Father Jerry Ryle

Father Ryle attended St. Joseph’s Seminary in Mountain View, California, and St. Patrick’s Major Seminary in Menlo Park, California. He received his master’s degree in theology there in 1968, the year of his ordination to the Catholic priesthood. He has pursued additional studies at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of San Francisco, and took part in an immersion program in Spanish language and culture in Mexico. His last two pastorates have been in predominantly Hispanic parishes. Nine years after his ordination, he entered a Trappist cloister to consider a monastic vocation, returning to parish ministry after two-and-a-half years.

For the past 30 years, Father Ryle has been a leader in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, which works to bring people into full communion with the Catholic Church, and he is a popular presenter on liturgical renewal. He has taught full time in Catholic schools and served as a chaplain for prisoners and even the members of an ashram in rural New York.
