Important Dates:

  • Summer Housing Begins: Friday, May 22, 2015 at noon
  • Summer Housing Ends: Friday, August 7, 2015 at 4 pm

*If you need to be here earlier than May 22nd or later than August 7th, you would register for both intersession housing and summer housing*

During the summer, all students will live in Christian Witness Commons.  When applying for summer housing, you have the ability to select if you want to be in a single or a double room.  We do have Summer Resident Assistants available within the halls, and there is a Residence Hall Director assigned to manage summer housing. 

Christian Witness Commons is an air-conditioned building, and cable TV service is provided (must provide your own TV) within the suite. 

Summer housing in Christian Witness Commons is guaranteed only between Friday May 22, 2015 at noon until Friday August 7, 2015 at 4 pm.        

Spring Intersession Housing

Spring Intersession Housing (Wednesday May 13 through Thursday May 21) is available only in the following locations. Please refer to the table below to see where your intersession housing will be assigned.

Housing Costs

Housing costs for a double room in Christian Witness Commons is $125/week. The cost for a single room in Christian Witness Commons is $205/week and may not be available due to space concerns.

* There is a required one-time $50 move-in fee payable at the time of move-in.

Students who are working for an on-campus department or office whose housing costs are covered will receive a double room. These students who wish to live in a single room are responsible for the full cost of a single room ($205/week) if space is available.

All summer occupants must pay the first two weeks of pre-paid rent and a $50 dollar move-in fee at the time of move-in. Residents will be billed for any bedroom, common area, and apartment damage, missing keys/cards, or improper checkouts.

Once you arrive on campus, payments can be made in person though the Office of Residential Life. Weekly rent may be paid at the Office of Residential Life, located in Merton Hall. The Residential Life Office hours are 9:00 am-4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 9AM - 1PM on Fridays. Information about paying in person will be shared with summer residents when they arrive on campus for the summer. 

Belongings

No belongings can be stored or kept in any place other than the room/suite to which the student is officially assigned to and/or living.  It is recommended students make their own arrangements with independent storage companies if necessary.

Students are not permitted to bring and/or store in their summer housing assignment the following items:

  • Mini-refrigerators or freezers
  • Upholstered furniture longer than 24” in length
  • Barbecue/charcoal grills, gas grills, propane tanks, or other related cooking appliances
  • Personal window-unit air conditioners

Current SHU students needing housing after the official Summer Housing dates will pay the standard $35/day intersession fee and will be required to relocate into appropriate Intersession/Early Arrival Housing at the discretion of the Residential Life Office.  

Basic Summer Rules

All Summer Housing is alcohol free regardless of age. Summer Housing is a privilege, not a right. Students must abide by the rules and policies of Sacred Heart University & Christian Witness Commons. Any violation of University polices may result in a judicial hearing and sanctions which may include immediate removal from summer housing.

Summer Students are required to register guests with the Summer Resident Assistants between 8 pm to 10 pm in the Summer RA office located in building B. Guests cannot stay more than 2 consecutive nights or more than 72 hours over the course of a week. Any violation of the guest policy may result in a judicial hearing and sanctions which may include immediate removal from summer housing.
