Important Dates

  • Summer Housing Begins: Friday, May 19, 2017 at 1PM
  • Summer Housing Ends: Friday, August 4, 2017 at 6PM

*If you need to be here earlier than May 19th or later than August 4th, you would register for both intersession housing and summer housing*

During the summer, all students will live in Christian Witness Commons. When applying for summer housing, you have the ability to request if you want to be in a single or a double room.  *Single rooms for SHU students are available only as space allows and are subject to a higher weekly rate. We do have Summer Resident Assistants available within the halls, and there is a Residence Hall Director assigned to manage summer housing. 

Summer housing in Christian Witness Commons is guaranteed only between Friday, May 19, 2017 at 1PM until Friday, August 4, 2017 at 6PM. Applying for Summer Housing must be completed at least 48 business hours before your schedule move in date. Applications are processed during regular business hours (Monday to Friday 8:30AM to 4:30PM).       

Spring Intersession Housing

Spring Intersession Housing (Wednesday, May 10 through Thursday, May 18) is available only in the following locations. This pertains to only freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Seniors are not eligible for Spring Intersession Housing. Please refer to the table below to see where your intersession housing will be assigned.

Housing Costs

Housing costs for a double room in Christian Witness Commons is $125/week. The cost for a single room in Christian Witness Commons is $200/week and may not be available due to space concerns.

  • A one-time $50 administrative move-in fee* and a minimum of two weeks rent is required at the time of move-in.  Move-in fee can be paid in advance with the first rent payment, or paid at the time of move-in. 
  • Rate is based on full weekly attendance starting on Fridays - Rate is not pro-rated.  If you move in on a day other than Friday, you are still responsible for the full weekly rate leading up to the following Friday.
  • Payments can be made in person at your summer residence hall during designated rent collection hours, or can be mailed to: Residential Life – Summer Housing Program, 5151 Park Avenue, Fairfield, CT 06825
  • Payments can be made via cash or check only.  Checks should be made payable to SACRED HEART UNIVERSITY.  No debit or credit cards can be accepted.  
  • Residents will be billed for any bedroom, common area, and apartment damage, missing keys/cards, or improper checkouts.

* The move-in fee will be waived if rent is paid upfront IN FULL, for the duration of the summer stay.

Students who are working for an on-campus department or office whose housing costs are covered will receive a double room. These students must have their summer supervisor contact our office, prior to their move-in, to verify employment and rent coverage. Students who wish to live in a single room are responsible for the full cost of a single room ($200/week) only if space is available.

Belongings

No belongings can be stored or kept in any place other than the room/suite to which the student is officially assigned to and/or living.  It is recommended students make their own arrangements with independent storage companies if necessary.

Students are not permitted to bring and/or store in their summer housing assignment the following items:

  • Mini-refrigerators or freezers
  • Upholstered furniture longer than 24” in length
  • Barbecue/charcoal grills, gas grills, propane tanks, or other related cooking appliances
  • Personal window-unit air conditioners

[*SUBJECT TO CHANGE*] Current SHU students needing housing after the official Summer Housing dates will pay the standard $40/day intersession fee and will be required to relocate into appropriate Intersession/Early Arrival Housing at the discretion of the Residential Life Office.  

Basic Summer Rules and Summer Housing Contract

All Summer Housing is alcohol free regardless of age. Summer Housing is a privilege, not a right. Students must abide by the rules and policies of Sacred Heart University. Any violation of University polices may result in a conduct hearing and sanctions which may include immediate removal from summer housing.

Summer Students are required to register guests with the Summer Resident Assistants between 8pm to 10pm in the Summer RA office located in Christian Witness building B. Guests cannot stay more than 2 consecutive nights or more than 72 hours over the course of a week. Any violation of the guest policy may result in a conduct hearing and sanctions which may include immediate removal from summer housing.

Health & Safety Inspections as well as Occupancy Checks will be conducted without notice throughout the duration of summer housing. Any violation of University polices including but not limited to the Guest Policy, may result in a conduct hearing and sanctions which may include immediate removal from summer housing.
