Mission and Values
Beta Theta Pi is devoted to developing men of principle for a principled life. Our vision is that all members of Beta Theta Pi live the values that we strive to uphold. These values are Mutual Assistance, Responsible Conduct, Trust, Intellectual Growth, and Integrity.
Beta Theta Pi was the first fraternity to be created west of the Allegheny Mountains by eight outstanding men in 1839 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. These men were dedicated to creating an organization that drove men to be the best version of themselves. To do this, the five core values of Mutual Assistance, Responsible Conduct, Trust, Intellectual Growth, and Integrity were defined to pave the way for Beta Theta Pi’s members. Today, men proudly represent the fraternity at 138 campuses. Boasting an undergraduate population of over 10,000, and a lifetime membership of over 205,000. Some of our most notable Betas include Bill Bowerman - Co-founder of Nike, Sam Walton – Founder of Walmart, John Wooden – Renowned Basketball player and coach, and Adam West – An actor widely known for his role as Batman in the 1960’s series.
Beta Theta Pi understands that each community is different, and that the immediate needs of the community change across the country. Because of that, we encourage each chapter to decide what their individual philanthropy should be devoted to.
