The Sacred Heart University Council of Graduate Students, also referred to as COGS, is an extra-curricular organization that fosters support and interaction among graduate students, faculty, the University, and community at large through intellectual and social events. It provides a voice for graduate students by embracing the academic, social, cultural, and general diversity of its members.
Membership to COGS is open to all part-time and full-time graduate students looking to become more involved within the graduate student body on campus. COGS meetings will typically take place every other week. Regardless of the amount of time you can contribute to COGS, there are numerous ways to have an active role on the council. Remember, it's never too late to join!
Every month, COGS sponsors a Pub Night for graduate students at Red's, the on campus pub. These events have $2 drafts, free food, live music, and raffles. It's a fun way to reconnect with classmates outside of the classroom, and also meet other graduate students from different programs. Our most popular social event is the COGS semi-formal Dinner Dance in the spring that is open to all graduate students and their dates, as well as faculty and administration. It's an elegant celebration of the ending academic year enjoyed with cocktails, dinner, and dancing.
COGS also provides financial assistance to each graduate level academic program for use towards conferences, guest lecturers, and career development events.
As president, I hope to increase COGS awareness and participation by organizing a variety of social and networking events that appeal to graduate students of all ages and backgrounds. I also aim to to create a more consistent dialogue among the graduate student population, and also between graduate students and the University.
