2014 Summer Student Ambassadors

The Summer Ambassador (Summer Tour Guide) position is designed to allow current SHU students practical experience within the realms of recruitment, event planning, and general office duties. The Summer Tour Guides will be part of the collective goals of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, therefore assisting in the recruitment and enrollment of academically qualified students.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide campus tours for prospective students and families
  • Greet and converse will guests
  • Assist with Summer Preview Day Program*
  • Perform data entry
  • Assist with office duties such as filing, answering phones, etc.

Qualifications

  • Be a current full-time SHU student in good academic standing (2.75 GPA), enrolled for the Fall semester
  • Have a positive outlook and great enthusiasm for SHU
  • Feel comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people
  • Have a sense of humor
  • Good organizational skills
  • Project a positive image of yourself and the university
  • Be neat and courteous
  • Good time management skills
  • Reliable

Work Schedule

  • Approximately 20 hours per week
  • 2-3 Saturdays Tours
  • Special Tours as requested

Compensation

  • Stipend
  • Housing and Meal Package

2014-2015 Student Ambassadors

The Student Ambassador position is designed to allow current SHU students practical experience in the area of recruitment. The Student Ambassadors are part of the collective goals of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, therefore assisting in the recruitment and enrollment of academically qualified students.

*Student Ambassadors must be available to attend the Annual Student Ambassador Retreat in July.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide campus tours for guests
  • Greet and converse with guests in Curtis Hall
  • Assist with Open Houses and other special events on campus
  • Assist with Group tours
  • Represent SHU at various off campus events
  • Assist in the tele-communication plan of the Admissions Office
  • Help counselors with office support

Qualifications

  • Must be a current full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing (2.5 GPA)
  • Must be at least at Sophomore standing
  • Have a positive outlook and great enthusiasm for SHU
  • Feel comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people
  • Have a sense of humor
  • Be flexible and easy-going
  • Pay attention to detail and have good organizational skills
  • Project a positive image of yourself and the university
  • Be neat and courteous
  • Good time management skills
  • Reliable

Work Schedule

  • An average of 8 hours per week in the office (less if you are a volunteer)
  • Fall and Spring Open Houses (7-8 events per semester)
  • Special Events
  • 2-4 Saturdays per semester

2014-2015 Weekend Student Ambassadors

The Weekend Student Ambassador Position is designed for students to garner experience in the area of recruitment by assisting the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in being a representative for SHU on the weekends.

During the year, the weekends tend to be a very busy time for prospective students and their families to visit campus. This position will enable you to meet many families and sharing your experiences with them.

*Student Ambassadors must be available to attend the Annual Student Ambassador Retreat in July.

Applicants for this position must be eligible for work study from the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
