POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Men's Basketball Team Manager is an excellent opportunity for any student who is granted work-study for the 2011-2012 school year and is interested in working in the field of intercollegiate athletics.  Students in this position will work closely with the coaching staff and players and will be intimately involved in various day-to-day aspects of the Men's Basketball Program.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
  • Organize team equipment
  • Practice set-up and attend practices
  • Travel with the team
  • Handle game equipment and laundry
  • Game day set up
  • Videotape home and away games as well as some practices
  • Organize various team travel meals
  • Other duties as requested
EXPECTED HOURS:
Practice is daily from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and managers are expected to attend as many practices as possible.  Other hours are flexible and will vary depending on our game and travel schedule.

  • Filming games using a video camera
  • Editing game footage and creating DVDs

EXPECTED HOURS:
Games are typically on weekends; however, attendance at several weekday games will be required as well.  Game time is approximately 3.5 hours.

Students in this position are responsible for assisting the Head Equipment Manager in day-to-day operations and duties to meet equipment needs for University varsity athletic teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
  • Assisting Head Equipment Manager and equipment room staff in accomplishing day-to-day responsibilities of the athletic equipment room including filing and data entry, laundry, uniform and equipment distribution, packing equipment and uniforms for both home and away events, and receiving and conducting inventory of goods
  • Will also involve work in and around the men and women's locker rooms and field areas
  • May involve some work around home games, which are typically played on weekday afternoons and nights
  • May also include occasional weekend work (days and nights)
  • Other duties as requested
EXPECTED HOURS:
All hours are based on the student’s work study allotment. Semester and weekly schedules are created with the student to ensure there are no conflicts with class or holiday travel schedules, but also to ensure there is appropriate equipment room coverage. Support is sometimes needed during games, which are played on weekday afternoons and nights; also may include weekend work (Saturday and Sunday) both during the day and on Friday and Saturday nights.   Hours can also be fulfilled over holiday, winter and spring breaks and anytime home games are scheduled. All hours are scheduled and agreed to ahead of time for the planning purposes of both the student and the equipment room staff.

We are actively seeking managers for football, men and women’s soccer, field hockey, men and women’s track & field/cross country, men and women’s volleyball, men and women’s basketball, men and women’s ice hockey, baseball, softball, and men and women’s lacrosse. Please contact the Athletic Equipment Room if you are interested in becoming a team manager for a sport not listed above.
EXPECTED HOURS:
All hours are based on the student’s work study allotment. Semester and weekly schedules are created with the student to ensure there are no conflicts with class or holiday travel schedules, but also to ensure there is appropriate team practice and game coverage. Support is needed during all of the selected team’s games, which are played on weekday afternoons and nights; also played on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) both during the day and on Friday and Saturday nights.   Hours will also be fulfilled over holiday, winter and spring breaks (depending on the team and their team travel schedules). PLEASE NOTE:  All hours are scheduled and agreed to ahead of time for the planning purposes of both the student and the equipment room / individual team coaching staffs.   
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
This position involves significant interaction with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators of Sacred Heart University, along with some interactions with student-athletes and coaches of our visiting teams.  Students working in this position are expected to be:
  • Enthusiastic, courteous, and hardworking
  • Knowledgeable about the Pitt Center or team home venue facility and equipment room
  • Knoweldgeable about Equipment Room policies and procedures as well as their individual team policies, as defined by the Head Equipment Manager of Sacred Heart University
