Office Assistant

Assist Marketing and Communications department with administrative duties.

DEPARTMENT: Marketing and Communications

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Conduct research on internet, update media files
  • Utilize Microsoft Word and Excel for data entry and maintenance of lists.
  • Develop and update mailing and email lists and execute mailings for department.
  • Organize publications, fill book orders

EXPECTED HOURS: Approximately 10-15 hours per week, but very flexible.


This position requires a responsible and professional student with the following skills and qualifications:

Marketing/Communications Assistant

The Marketing Assistant position is an excellent opportunity for any student who is granted work study. This position is perfect for a student looking to challenge themselves and to expand their resumes. Students in this position are responsible for performing general office duties as well as assisting marketing director and staff to create a cohesive and smooth transition of day to day activities.

DEPARTMENT: Marketing & Communications

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Carry out Peer Marketing – Flyers, Table Tents, and Hand-outs
  • Perform a variety of Administrative Responsibilities (Including but not limited to data entry, general file maintenance, mailings, copying, and reception duties: greeting student/employers, etc.)
  • Research on local corporations
  • Competitive intelligence and analysis
  • Advertising tracking
  • Budgetary analysis
  • Acquisition and retention analysis
  • Campus errands
  • General office duties as assigned

EXPECTED HOURS: Hours per week are determined based on work-study award amounts and are available 8:30AM – 6PM Monday through Friday. Schedules will be worked out at the start of employment.

Office Aides must be:

  • Responsible and professional individuals, at any student level
  • Customer service oriented
  • Positive and resourceful with an ability to multi-task
  • Must show attention to detail
  • Skilled in MS Office

Communications Office Assistant | POSITION FILLED

Join Marketing and Communications (MARCOM) for a fast-paced and deadline-oriented position in the Communications arm of MARCOM.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Writing calendar announcements based on a template format
  • SHU Magazine content upload to Wordpress platform
  • Coordination of news and event information
  • Upload to external news websites
  • Social media support (i.e., taking smartphone photos at events)

Training will be provided and some portions of the job can be done remotely. Media studies students and all creative types are a plus.

EXPECTED HOURS: Two or three hours per week.

Communications Writing Assistant | POSITION FILLED

Join Marketing and Communications (MARCOMM) for a fast-paced and deadline-oriented position in the Communications arm of MARCOMM.

RESPONSITILIBIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

Writing calendar announcements based on a template format
Writing press releases for University news bureau (attending various events and conducting interviews is expected).

EXPECTED HOURS: Two or three hours per week.

Multimedia Assistant

The Department of Marketing & Communications is responsible for promoting the University and its faculty, students, programs and policies both internally and externally. The team handles University branding initiatives, marketing for special events and programs, enrollment marketing, public relations, media relations, web content, social media and more.  The Multimedia Assistant will directly assist the Multimedia Communications Coordinator whose main responsibilities are the University's main social media accounts and videography efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):

  • Assist with the filming, editing and production of academic profile videos.
  • Capture University events and student life particularly during evening and/or off hours.
  • Assist with the University Snapchat account by managing at least one Snap Story/week
