Outside Scholarships

It is important that students research outside sources of financial aid whether it be civic organizations, corporations, or within their high school. The websites listed below give a snapshot of requirements, contact information, and scholarship amounts. Although these sites are recommended, we ask that students use their own discretion when sharing any personal information.

Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant Program

  • $1,000 maximum award

Requirements

  • Emergency grants are available to eligible veterans who have experienced unexpected financial difficulties that might cause them to drop out from school
  • Applicant must be an honorably-discharged veteran or a spouse of a disabled veteran who has served in the United States military, including the Reserves and National Guard, and have received a Certificate of Eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs or another document of service
  • Applicant must use any military education benefits for which they are eligible
  • Applicant must submit a FAFSA and be determined PELL-eligible
  • Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Knights of Columbus - Stamford Disabilities Scholarship Founded in 1897, the St. Augustine Council of the Knights of Columbus in Stamford, Connecticut, is one of the oldest councils in America. Standing by their guiding principles of Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism, and Charity, Council #41 looks to give back to the local community by giving of its time, talent, and treasure.

  • Applicant must have a demonstrated disability (physical, learning, or otherwise) on record with the Office of Special Learning Services at Sacred Heart University 
  • Applicant should reside and/or have a home address in Fairfield County, Connecticut (both resident and commuter students are eligible to apply)
  • Applicant is asked to submit a 500-word essay outlining how this scholarship would benefit them

  • Applicant must be a legal U.S. resident
  • Applicant must currently be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or accepted into a baccalaureate or higher nursing program for the upcoming semester
  • Applicant must provide a personal narrative as well as a 750-1000 word essay explaining (1) their desire to become a registered nurse and how they plan to contribute to society as an RN, and (2) the significance that receiving this scholarship would have on them
