Outside Scholarships

It is important that students research outside sources of financial aid whether it be civic organizations, corporations, or within their high school. The websites listed below give a snapshot of requirements, contact information, and scholarship amounts. Although these sites are recommended, we ask that students use their own discretion when sharing any personal information.

Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant Program

  • $1,000 maximum award

Requirements

  • Emergency grants are available to eligible veterans who have experienced unexpected financial difficulties that might cause them to drop out from school
  • Applicant must be an honorably-discharged veteran or a spouse of a disabled veteran who has served in the United States military, including the Reserves and National Guard, and have received a Certificate of Eligibility from the Department of Veterans Affairs or another document of service
  • Applicant must use any military education benefits for which they are eligible
  • Applicant must submit a FAFSA and be determined PELL-eligible
  • Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

  • Applicant must be a legal U.S. resident
  • Applicants are challenged to create a visual entry, whether it is a photograph, collage, painting, illustration, poem, short story—any single piece that demonstrates what they would like to do in their personal and professional life after college. Applicants are asked to follow the theme: This is how I Frame my Future.

  • 4-Year Scholarship of up to $20,000

  • Applicant must be an exceptionally innovative and creative high school junior, senior, or college freshmen
  • Applicant must be a CT or New York City metro area resident and plan to attend/or currently attend college anywhere in the United States OR be a United States resident and plan to attend/or currently attend college in CT or NYC

Requirements

  • Applicant must qualify as one of the following: U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident (holders of Permanent Resident Card), an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, or political asylees and refugees.
  • Applicant must provide evidence of superior academic achievement (e.g. grade point average, class rank, honors, etc.
  • Applicant must be committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level.
