What will I study?
The Management program enables you to understand how organizations operate in the contemporary global environment. You will acquire an understanding of the external environment of business and how it affects the internal activities of an enterprise. Drawing on management theories as well as current business practices, you will develop knowledge, skills and competencies that will enable you to assume positions in a wide variety of industries and organizations. The BA curriculum places special emphasis on personal ethical accountability and corporate social responsibility.
In addition to management courses, students majoring in Management will learn about other business disciplines such as accounting, economics, finance, law, marketing, management information systems and operations management and explore how to combine different resources (human, information, technology, knowledge or materials) strategically to achieve the mission and goals of an organization. Communication, teamwork, leadership, critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed in managerial roles are emphasized across the curriculum.
As part of the program, Management students have the opportunity to choose a three-course concentration in one of the following areas and develop some specialized knowledge and expertise in that area:

The courses in the Management major are taught by knowledgeable and experienced professors who are active not only in the classroom but also through research, policy advising and consulting. The Management faculty interacts closely with students inside and outside the classroom and provides personal attention to students and their learning needs. Will I have internship opportunities?
Yes, every student majoring in management has the opportunity to work in a business or management internship to learn the rigors of the business environment and prepare for a successful professional career. You will work with a faculty coordinator of internships and the Career Development Office to obtain a desired position. A typical internship requires between 10 and 20 hours of work experience per week over a semester. Some internships are paying, while others are non-paying. The internship experience is recorded and assessed in a portfolio. At the conclusion of the internship, you will re-evaluate skills, career goals and career development needs in light of the experience. You must complete all sections of the portfolio and submit it to your faculty advisor in order to receive credit.

Are there special admission requirements?
No, we have an open admission policy. Incoming first-year students and transfer students may declare the Management major when you apply for admission to Sacred Heart University.
