The foundation on which we build the Welch Experience is the academic challenge and growth that takes place in our classrooms on a daily basis. Our faculty members represent disciplines from around the globe, and our students are encouraged to think critically, make ethical decisions, and explore interests outside of their majors.
In business, an academic experience needs to be hands-on. Beyond the class projects, we offer experiences like the Business Ethics Competition and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, just to name a few.
All students in the College of Business have the opportunity to work closely with the WCOB Faculty as a Research Assistant. Not only do these students have the opportunity to add scholarly research to their resumes, but working with faculty gives students an inside view of what is expected of a research paper. See what our Research Assistants had to say about the benefits of their experience.
Faculty Research is showcased during Research Day, which in November 2011 was attended by over 250 students. For a look at the research presented, click the program on the left.
Students who excel academically have the opportunity to become a John F. Welch Scholar, one of the highest awards a business student can earn. Welch Scholars receive scholarship money, represent the College of Business at internal and external functions, and work closely with the WCOB Faculty on projects.
Showcasing the academic experience is something employers value. Students in the Welch College of Business are provided Electronic Portfolio software through Blackboard. In addition to in-class applications which allow faculty to comment and revise student work, students can use the E-Portfolio to showcase a customized cover letter and resume, along with a short biography, references, transcripts, or any application materials needed. In addition, the E-Portfolio also houses any student projects they would like to share with prospective employers as well.
