Edward Murray, Ph.D.
Associate Professor & Director of MAT Program
He has served Sacred Heart University since 1980 in a variety of positions but takes particular pride in his role in the development of new programs.
For over a decade he worked with the School Development at Yale Child Study as the developer of Essentials of Literacy, a reading intervention program that focused on rapidly bringing elementary students up to grade level. He has consulted to over twenty five of the most challenging school districts in the country. His passions are teaching children to read and the professional development of teachers.
He has had teaching sabbaticals in New Zealand and most recently China. He has regularly volunteered in SHU’s Catholic outreach programs in El Salvador, Hurricane Katrina Relief and Habitat for Humanity.
Dr. Murray’s ultimate joy is his wife, Dr. Lucille McEeachern, his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Bertan Akin and his newly arrived grandson, Evren West Akin.
When not at work he can be found in Branford renovating the beach shack that he and Lucille live in, aboard the sailing vessel “Eagle Light” or in the Florida Keys.
