Nominations Sought for Sacred Heart University Educators Alumni Association’s

First Annual Awards for Outstanding Teacher and Outstanding Administrator

Nomination Deadline: April 25, 2015

The Sacred Heart University Educators Alumni Association is currently seeking nominations for the First Annual Alumni Association Awards. You are invited to nominate deserving alumni for the two prestigious awards. Criteria and required nomination material is noted below.

All award recipients will be honored at the Second Annual SHU Isabelle Farrington College of Education’s Reception for Graduates in May 13, 2015.  If you plan on attending, please RSVP for the Reception.

Desired Characteristics of Outstanding Teacher

  • Relates to students
  • Exceeds professional responsibilities
  • Maximizes student potential
  • Demonstrates an influence beyond the classroom and into their school community
  • Maintains a student-centered perspective
  • Committed as a lifelong learner who models dedication to continued learning
  • Focuses on relationships that transform and empower students, parents, and community
  • Reflects the belief that all children can achieve
  • Closes achievement gaps for students
  • Has the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues
  • Inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn

Desired Characteristics of Outstanding Administrator

  • Focus on all students learning to high standards and expectations
  • Create shared beliefs and values
  • Has a shared vision of change
  • Creates a “healthy dissatisfaction with the status quo” to bring about improvement
  • Exhibits effective and dynamic leadership
  • Visible in the schools and the community
  • Provides moral leadership
  • Views educational improvement as a long-term commitment and process
  • Perseveres, persists, and stays the course
  • Highly inclusive of all stakeholders in decision-making
  • Has the respect of students, parents, teachers, and colleagues

Send a letter indicating how the nominee meets the desired characteristics and up to three supporting letters. The entire package must be emailed to by April 25, 2015.
