The Sacred Heart University Certificate Program in Advanced Orthopaedic Physical Therapy is designed for the practicing physical therapist interested in developing advanced evidence-based orthopaedic physical therapy skills.

This post-professional program consists of 6 courses (18 credits). This didactic educational experience is designed to prepare graduates to:  practice advanced evidence-based orthopaedic physical therapy and sit for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties Certification Examination as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS).

The curriculum design of the program allows the practicing physical therapist to complete coursework on-line and attend four 2-day on-site hands-on workshops. On-line courses promote the development of advanced clinical practice and expertise through activities focusing on the most current practice-based information and the development of reflective higher-order clinical reasoning skills.

On-site workshops allow physical therapists to work closely with faculty and colleagues in the: development of expert orthopaedic physical therapy examination and treatment skills; application of the best-available evidence to orthopaedic physical therapy practice; and promotion of sound and efficient clinical reasoning.

The program can be completed in 12 - 24 months with start dates of either September or January. The Program is licensed by the State of Connecticut. Licensed physical therapists are encouraged to apply.
