About Us

It is the Mission of the Life & Sport Analysis Clinic to provide the highest tier of health and sports performance-oriented services to both the Sacred Heart University and local communities. We employ state-of-the-art practices and equipment to deliver the highest quality of service. Additionally, these services provide rich educational opportunities for our undergraduate and graduate students majoring in Exercise Science.

Our Team

Matthew Moran Matthew Moran, Ph.D. | Co-Director
Dr. Moran holds a Ph.D. in Biomechanics from the Pennsylvania State University and he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Science while serving as the Director of the Undergraduate Exercise Science program. His primary research interests focus on investigating factors that influence human movement patterns primarily running biomechanics. Currently he is investigating the role of step width manipulation during a gait retraining program. Coupled with his academic and research pursuits, he is an accomplished distance runner and former collegiate cross country/track & field coach.  

Beau Greer, Ph.D. | Co-Director, CSCS
Dr. Beau Kjerulf Greer is Associate Professor and Director of the MS in Exercise Science and Nutrition program. He received his Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from the Department of Nutrition, Food, and Exercise Sciences at Florida State University in 2006. His primary research interests include ergogenic aids to sport performance, particularly dietary supplements. He is the fitness and nutrition consultant for the Bridgeport Policy Academy, and a former World Champion powerlifter. He also sits on the written examination board for the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.

Richard Marcello, MS | Clinical Exercise Physologist, CSCS
Rich holds a MS in Exercise Science and Nutrition from Sacred Heart University and is currently an Instructor in the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Science. His primary research interests focus on the effects of strength training in distance runners. Rich is a former Sacred Heart cross country and track athlete, and is currently the Head Boy's and Girl's Cross Country Coach at Weston High School. Rich has a NSAC Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification.

Wendy Bjerke, Ph.D. | Clinical Exercise Physiologist
Dr. Bjerke’s background as a clinical exercise physiologist in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation suits clients with chronic disease risk factors and those recovering from health conditions such as cardiovascular and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. She has experience with various clinical tests and can provide body composition analysis and sub maximal as well as maximal VO2 max testing. Chronic disease management counseling specific to exercise, nutrition, and stress management can also be provided.

Theresa Miyashita, Ph.D. | Assistant Professor
Dr. Theresa Miyashita is the Program Director for the Athletic Training Education Program. She earned her PhD from Colorado State University in Education & Biomedical Sciences, with a focus in Neurology. Her primary research interests are sports-related concussion and the cumulative effect of subconcussive impacts on neurocognitive function. Currently, she is conducting multiple research projects with our Division I athletes.

Ashley Lockaby, BS | Certified Personal Trainer
Ashley is currently in her second year of the Doctoral Physical Therapy program at Sacred Heart University. She obtained her BS in Exercise Science from SHU in May 2014. Ashley received her ACSM Personal Training certification and currently works as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor at SHU. She has also competed in NPC Fitness Competitions at the National Level for 2 years and is currently competing in hopes of achieving Professional Level qualification this season. She was previously a member of the Sacred Heart Cheerleading team as well as competing in dance, gymnastics and cheerleading throughout highschool and college.

‌‌ Christopher Connelly, MS | Exercise Instructor, CSCS, EP-C
Chris holds a Masters in Exercise Science and Nutrition from Sacred Heart University and has been working with LSAC exercise Classes for 3 years. Chris’ focus is in the area of biomechanics and movement during running and exercise. Chris is a former Sacred Heart University cross country and track athlete where he was an individual conference champion. He currently holds his NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist certification.

Erin Chapman | Certified Personal Trainer
Erin Chapman is a senior exercise science student at Sacred Heart University. She is currently certified as a personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine. Erin has been working in the LSAC for three years and her main area of interest is resistance training. After graduation Erin will continue into SHU's doctorate of physical therapy program. She also plans to sit for the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam.

Matthew Manzo Matthew Manzo | Certified Personal Trainer
Matt is in his final year of the undergraduate exercise science program at Sacred Heart University. He is a certified personal trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine and is new to LSAC this year. He is a member of the Sacred Heart Men’s Soccer team and his primary interests are in plyometric training and calisthenics. After graduation, Matt will pursue a doctorate of physical therapy. He will also sit for the NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist exam.
