The Drowned - Brent Middleton

 The Drowned
Brent Middleton
I’m falling, falling
Deeper than I ever have before.
I’m sinking, sinking
Through the sinister depths of unknown waters.
I reach out for the surface in fear of what could be
But draw my hand back almost immediately
 driven by what was.
It’s only now,
Sifting listlessly through jeweled waters (emerald, ruby)
That I finally understand
That not getting everything I wish for
Is not Sadness.
