The Higgs Boson, more commonly known as “The God Particle” has recently been creating a lot of noise among members of the scientific community as well as the media. Originally proposed by theoretical physicist, Peter Higgs in 1964, The Higgs Boson may be responsible for the creation of mass in the Universe as we know it. To date, researchers have found evidence and are trying to find confirm Peter Higgs’ theory. Aside from the scientific background, this paper delves into the meaning which the discovery of the Higgs Boson would ascribe to our everyday lives, as well as the effects it would have on individuals’ worldviews regarding the creation of the Universe. The debate between creationism and science would explore a new realm it has never touched upon with this new information. Proof positive of the Higgs Boson, would bring about many skeptics. One may think, where did the energy which makes the Higgs Field and associated particle, the Higgs Boson, possible come from? These questions suggest that discussions about science, religion and their coexistence will remain ongoing for many years to come. Perhaps the only possible solution is that science and religion must coexist. Along with the remarkable technology, knowledge and theories being tested to re-create the Higgs Boson, humans must ensure to not lose touch with their purpose here on Earth. Our scientific findings are here to educate us, enhance our lives, and provide us with the best understanding of our surroundings. With this said, humans must ensure their stewardship towards Earth, and its inhabitants, remains a priority.
