When I began my final Capstone project, I wanted a specific focus to illuminate as an overall theme to my work. I wanted to explore the complexities of relationships. As humans, it is in our nature to reach out to others, to be wanted, to feel as though we are connected somehow to the community around us. I believe that one can tell a lot about a person by their relationships with others. I wanted to explore what occurs when lives touch, when one part of a person bleeds into another person, defining both of them. I wanted to discuss the intricacies of friendship, the turmoil of love, and most importantly, the relationship with self. I believe that the relationship with self is the most significant and yet least discussed. What we wrestle with internally defines us as much as our relationships with others do.
In order to complete this project properly, I had to examine relationships in my own life in addition to the relationships that others around me had with others around them, and look deeply into the relationship I have with myself. Overall, it was an insightful, revealing experience.
