Incoming freshmen with a strong high school academic performance and an expressed interest in Communication and/or Sociology are eligible to join our accelerated five-year program, which leads to the completion of both a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master of Arts (MA) degree in five years. Students accepted into the accelerated program will begin their graduate studies during the second semester of their senior year, and can elect to pursue a Master of Arts in Communication (MACOMM), a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication & Public Relations, a Master of Arts in Sports Communication and Media (SCM), or a Master of Arts in Media Literacy and Digital Culture (MLDC).
By virtue of beginning their graduate work while still enrolled as undergraduates, students in the accelerated program receive a substantial discount on the overall cost of their graduate degree.

Students in the accelerated five-year SCPR program will take the graduate course CM 660 Crisis Communication in the spring of their senior year.
Master of Arts in Sports Communication and Media | SCM
With academic/professional tracks in Sports Broadcasting and Athletic Communications and Promotions, the Master of Arts in Sports Communication and Media is specifically designed from a humanities tradition to showcase multimedia production and capitalize on Sacred Heart University’s ideal geographic location in the heart of the US sports media industry. Students in the accelerated five-year SCM program will take the graduate course CM555 Sports Media Production during the spring semester of their senior year.
Master of Arts in Media Literacy and Digital Culture | MLDC
In today’s always on, always connected digital media environment it is increasingly important to develop a critical understanding of the mediated stories and images that are thoroughly integrated into our everyday lives. With concentrations in Children, Health, and Media and Media and Social Justice, the graduate program in Media Literacy and Digital Culture allows students to explore the relationship between media, culture, and society. The Children, Health, and Media concentration focuses on media impact on the minds, bodies, and relationships of children, tweens, and teens, while the concentration in Media and Social Justice explores the role of media in reinforcing or challenging power and inequality in social and institutional relationships. Students in the accelerated five-year MLDC program will take the graduate course CM503 Media Ethics during the spring semester of their senior year.
