Message from the Director

I’m thrilled to announce the official launch of the new School of Communication and Media Arts (SCMA) at Sacred Heart University in the recently built Martire Business and Communications Center. It is the latest exciting chapter in our rich history of providing quality communication and media programs to our students. Since the early 1990s, when media studies was a major with just 30 students, we have had thousands of students participate in our programs, which now include four undergraduate degrees and four master’s degrees.

The new School of Communication and Media Arts will continue its mission to educate lifelong learners, critical thinkers and effective communicators who have the creative and professional skills to compete for the best jobs in the communication and media industries. Our new Martire Business and Communications Center supports these goals through its state-of-the-art television studios, film sound stage, motion capture lab, media theater, screening rooms, post-production labs and a radio station. We will also continue to leverage our close proximity to New York and our location in Fairfield County to provide internships at an impressive array of leading communication companies and media outlets., while also expanding our study abroad program throughout the world. Our curriculum, faculty and facilities make SCMA a nationally competitive program that all of our current students and alumni can be proud of.

Please follow us on LinkedIn and Facebook to stay up to date on what our professors and students are doing across our undergraduate and graduate degrees, including media arts, digital communications, communication studies, theatre arts, film and television production, strategic communication and public relations, digital journalism and broadcasting, sports media and athletic communications, and media literacy.

The launch of our new school is a testament to the quality of our alumni who built the foundation on which we continue to grow. On behalf of my SCMA colleagues, I invite you to visit our Fairfield campus to tour our new facilities and celebrate the founding of our new School of Communication and Media Arts. You can also check out the new school here.

Best regards,
