MU 198 Liturgical Choir (1 credit)
This choir is a group of committed singers and instrumentalists who rehearse and provide music for the Sunday 7PM liturgy. A wide variety of uplifting music is offered in the spirit of prayer. The music used includes a mix of contemporary and traditional hymns, anthems and service music, up-tempo as well as more traditional in style, all a part of the great heritage of Catholic sacred music. The choir's goal is to enhance the liturgy and encourage the participation of all in attendance. Music is learned weekly at the Wednesday 2-3:15 PM rehearsal during the normal Convocation Hour. The choir meets on Sundays at 6:45 PM for a warm-up rehearsal before the evening liturgy at 7PM. Members receive training in vocal production and musical skills to better improve their talents.
There are many opportunities to serve as soloists and cantors at the regular Sunday 7PM Liturgy, as well as at various other liturgies, services, retreats and University events. From time to time, the choir participates in concert performances, and members often plan fun social events as a group. Auditions take place in late January and early February proceeding the following academic year in which they are awarded.
Participating singers accepted by audition will receive a $2,000 yearly renewable grant for their participation.
The choir is a rewarding experience, and is a fantastic way to interact and connect with others who are also interested in sharing their musical talent to serve the community. Percussionists, guitarists and all other instrumentalists are invited to audition to participate as an instrumental member. Participants will register for one credit, or for those over the full-time limit it is possible to register for 0 credit.
