Meet the Choir

Hello all! My name is Paul Carrier and I am a Junior at SHU.  I joined the choirs my freshmen year as a member of Liturgical and Concert choirs. I was also accepted into 4 Heart Harmony my sophomore year. Although I never sang in high school, I was approached by Dr. J after a freshman orientation session and I joined right away! I have fallen in love with the choirs—they are a great opportunity to get involved on campus and acquire a great life skill! Hope to see you all next year!

Hi! My name is Trevor Kelly, and I've been singing for longer than I can remember. I began playing the piano in second grade and play drums. In sixth grade, I joined my first choir and then sang in the Xavier High School Chorus and Select Jazz Choir. At Xavier, I was a Chorus section leader and during my Senior year the Student/Assistant conductor. I was a cantor in my church, Our Lady of Fatima in Wallingford. I made Southern Connecticut Regionals during my Junior and Senior Years, and All-State during my Senior Year. I am also active in musical theater - Fiddler on the Roof (as the Rabbi), West Side Story (as Geetar, a Jet), Grease! (As Doody, a T-Bird), Footloose (as Cowboy Bob), Jesus Christ Superstar (as Jesus Christ). This coming semester, I am excited to play Angel in Sacred Heart's production of RENT! I currently am a part of Sacred Heart University's Concert Choir, Liturgical Choir and select chamber choir: 4 Heart Harmony, all of which I love! I am pursuing a major in Religious Studies with a focus in Catholic Theology, as well as a double minor in Philosophy and, of course, Music. I will be taking Organ lessons on the new pipe organ in the Chapel. I am so happy to be able to continue with music and my singing career here at SHU, and then wherever it takes me!

Hello, my name is Jo-Marie Kasinak. I grew up Milford CT. I’m a Biology major with a concentration in Ecology and Conservation, and a Music minor. I first fell in love with SHU when I attended a football game.  SHU has this wonderful community atmosphere, and I really feel at home. I have been involved with music since I was four and started taking piano lessons.  I first started singing in the 3rd grade, and have sung in some form of choir ever since.  I used to sing for my school’s choir, and I also participated in All City, and All State Choirs for several years.  For 5 years, I was a part of the United and the Elm City Girls’ Choirs not only as a chorister but also as a section leader. I love singing in the SHU choirs because of how professional everyone is.  It is wonderful to sing with such a talented group of musicians who really enjoy what they do.  I think that it is fantastic to be able to get a brand new piece of music, sing through it, have a sectional on it, and have a good idea of what it is supposed to sound like.  The pieces that we do learn are interesting, and I love them all. I also enjoy the choirs because they helped me to meet a lot of new people. I would encourage all incoming student singers to audition. I know that going to rehearsal is the highlight of my week.  It’s when I get to relax and do something I love with other people who feel the same way.

Hello, my name is Alex Zeller. I am from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, about 20 minutes from Giants Stadium. I graduated from Seton Hall Preparatory School. I have the honor and the pleasure of singing bass in all three of the choirs offered here at SHU, including Liturgical Choir, Concert Choir, and 4 Heart Harmony. Meeting Dr. J and Keith Johnston from the Band program helped me pick Sacred Heart! I’ve fallen in love with SHU! In addition to participating in the band and in all the choirs I am a member of the Martial Arts Club, SHU Players, and a disc jockey for the student run radio station. Joining choir really helped me make a great group of friends right away. It certainly is an experience that I believe everyone should have, regardless of how long one has sung.

Hey, my name is Lauren Candee and I’m from a little town in Southeastern Connecticut called Ledyard. I attended Ledyard High School and now I’m a Sophomore here at Sacred Heart. My High School had a huge music program. It was so nice to be able to leave such a large music community and be welcomed into a new one, which played a big part in my decision to come to Sacred Heart University. I am in the University Concert Choir, the Liturgical choir, and Four Heart Harmony here. My advice? If you have even the slightest interest in choir or singing, come join one of the choirs! It’s so much fun and such a great way to meet people.
