Outcomes and Assessment

Program Goals

The Political Science major emphasizes the governmental institutions and political processes. In addition to introducing students to the formal study of government and politics, the program also prepares students in their roles as citizens and for their respective careers.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the American constitutional framework and public policy processes.

  • Understand the history of political thought through the great thinkers and their influence on American liberalism and democracy.

  • Describe the basic principles of the international system and the United States’ role in it.

  • Understand the political traditions and cultures of other regions and states.

  • Locate quality research materials and incorporate them into well-crafted academic papers.

  • Think critically about the political world.

  • Speak clearly and confidently, especially about their own political views.
