Chemistry Graduate MS Chemistry Thesis Track

The MS Chemistry Thesis Track is based on course work and experiments carried out in the laboratories of the department and allows students to gain experience in modern experimental techniques and to familiarize themselves with the daily workings of a laboratory.  It can also be based on course work and computational computer modeling research.  The student will work under the supervision of a faculty adviser and need to submit a proposal for approval from the department before he/she starts working on the project.

At the end of their studies, students will:
  • Have knowledge in the basic areas of chemistry (inorganic, organic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry) with an extensive knowledge in at least one area.
  • Have done extensive research through a project.
  • Have the ability to recognize scientific problems, formulate questions and answers, and carry out strategies for solving them.
  • Have the ability to read, understand, and use scientific literature
  • Have the ability to communicate scientific information clearly and precisely, both written and oral forms.
  • Have some understanding of the principles and applications of modern instrumentation, computation, experimental design and data analysis.

The Master of Chemistry Thesis Track requires a total of 30 credits.
