This Capstone project analyzes the work of Edgar Allen Poe and Truman Capote, two American writers who changed the understanding of crime literature. I discuss the ever-present evil found within literature and reality as well as the thin line between good and evil. I argue the importance of narrative and point of view within crime writing especially within Truman Capote’s non-fiction journalism. My analysis helps contribute to the further examination of empathy towards not only the victims but the murderers as well.
