Message from the Provost

April 24, 2015

It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you to the Third Annual Academic Festival at Sacred Heart University. This Festival is the culmination of many hours of dedicated work from students in all Colleges who responded with great enthusiasm and spirit to our Mission’s challenge “to think critically, analyze carefully, evaluate with a sense of justice and proportion," and “to imagine, create and appreciate.” I am grateful to you, our students, for embracing the life of the mind, and I wish you a very successful and productive experience. I especially applaud the efforts of our faculty who mentored our presenters and who live out the Mission daily in “expanding human knowledge and deepening human understanding.” Whether you are a student, a faculty member, a staff member, or a visitor to campus, I strongly encourage you to drop in on some of the morning or afternoon talks in such diverse disciplines such as Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, English, Finance, Graphic Design and Marketing, History, Mathematics, Media Studies, Nursing, Psychology, and Social Work and to browse the afternoon posters in Athletic Training, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English, Exercise Science, Health Science, Marketing and Business Administration, Nursing, Political Science, Psychology, and Social Work. I am sure that you will find these presentations to be enriching and thought-provoking. Finally, I extend my special thanks to Professors Marlina Slamet, Richard Magee, Keri Matthews, and Jennifer McLaughlin, as Chairs and Co-Chairs of the Academic Festival Committee, for spending their time and effort in organizing this significant event in the life of our academic community.

Sincerely,

Laura Niesen de Abruna, Ph.D.
