Recent news reports have documented outbreaks of several well-known childhood diseases previously known to have been eradicated in the United States. A record number of children are not receiving scheduled immunizations and the incidence of this continues to rise as controversy surrounds the safety of vaccines. The project is intended to educate caregivers about the importance of immunizations. To implement the project a teaching tool was created to provide evidence-based information to the caregivers of pediatric patients at Stamford Hospital. The recommendations presented in this teaching tool follow the guidelines established by of the American Academy of Pediatrics (2014), the Centers for Disease Control (2012), and the US Food and Drug Administration 2014) for the pediatric population.
