Musical Dialogues for Flute and Guitar

Sacred Heart University’s Academic Music Program will host Professors Joe Carter (guitar) and Ali Ryerson (flute) as they present “Musical Dialogues for Flute and Guitar” on Wednesday, November 29, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The concert is free and open to the public.

Joe Carter is the director of SHU’s Academic Music Program and the author of four textbooks for guitar. He has taught workshops and performed as a bandleader around the world, including Rio de Janeiro, Paris, Bombay, Berlin and Corsica. He has recorded with jazz artists such as Art Farmer, Lee Konitz, Cecil Payne, Rufus Reid and Brazilian artists Mauricio Einhorn, Luiz Eca, Robertinho Silva, Nilson Matta among others.

With a career spanning over four decades, jazz flutist, composer and author Ali Ryerson consistently ranks high among the top jazz flutists in the Downbeat Jazz poll and has been nominated as Jazz Flutist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association. Ali performs, records and teaches internationally, having toured the U.S., Canada, Europe, Japan, New Zealand and North Africa. Her concert performances range from Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., London’s Ronnie Scott’s, to the Blue Note in New York and Japan.
