Welch College of Business Hosts 'Girls with Impact' Event to Support Women in Business
Sacred Heart University’s Jack Welch College of Business (WCOB) recently hosted a Girls with Impact event for approximately 30 local high school girls and their parents, as part of SHU’s ongoing support of young women pursuing business careers.
Girls with Impact is a Greenwich-based organization that encourages women to follow their entrepreneurial goals and passions. Its session at SHU took place in the Frank and Marisa Martire Business & Communications Center.
The event began with an introduction from Jennifer Openshaw, founder and CEO of Girls with Impact, followed by a presentation of statistics on women in business. Guests also watched a video of a Harvard University professor talking about the significance of women’s contributions in business.
Afterwards, the girls wrote their own business ideas and proposals and discussed what they would need to proceed.
“It’s all about making a case for girls in business,” Anca Micu, WCOB associate dean, said about the event. “It’s important for girls to know as early as possible they can make it in business. The girls and their parents in the session were sold on the idea that girls can be successful.”
This was the second event SHU hosted during the fall semester that promoted women in business. The first event, The National Conversation on Board Diversity, was led by the Women on Boards organization. In addition to guest speakers, a panel discussed strategies for finding director opportunities.
