Monetary Policy in an Emerging Country
The Jack Welch College of Business will host Atiur Rahman, 10th governor of Bangladesh Bank, at the Martire Forum on Wednesday, April 19, at 11 a.m. He will present his talk “Monetary Policy in an Emerging Country.” This event is free and open to the public.
Rahman has been called "the banker of the poor" for his contribution in developing the Bangladeshi economy. He is also an economist and a prolific writer. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Dhaka.
As governor of the Central Bank of Bangladesh, he implemented several development programs such as a women entrepreneur's loan, a loan for landless farmers and special programs around green finance in addition to regular monetary policy regulations of the Bank. He also worked to automate and digitize the banking sector of Bangladesh.
For his work, Rahman was awarded Central Banker of the Year 2015 (Asia-Pacific) by The Banker.
