News Story: November 20, 2015

Prospective students considering a bachelor’s degree in accounting at Sacred Heart University and students currently enrolled in the program have something to celebrate. Accounting Degree Review, an independent resource for existing and potential accounting and finance students, ranked SHU’s accounting program at the Jack Welch College of Business second in the state.

Schools and programs included in Accounting Degree Review’s Top 10 Undergraduate Accounting Programs in Connecticut were evaluated based on publicly available information found in websites and publications such as Bloomberg Business, U.S.News and World Report and LinkedIn. Rankings were determined by the school’s accreditation, academic quality, cost, return on investment and reputation in the field, according to Accounting Degree Review.

SHU made the top five on the list of 10, ranking higher than many colleges including Quinnipiac University, the University of Connecticut and the University of New Haven.

“This speaks volumes to the work we have done at the Jack Welch School of Business,” said John Chalykoff, dean. “We are dedicated to our students and to providing them with the skills and tools they need for a successful career in accounting. From internship opportunities at notable companies to working closely with professors, the School of Business offers a truly fulfilling experience.”

The purpose of the listing is to highlight the merits of institutions and the opportunities available to students, according to Accounting Degree Review.

“I am glad to hear that Accounting Degree Review has ranked the accounting program at SHU’s Jack Welch School of Business as the second overall in its Top 10 Undergraduate Accounting Program rankings for the state of Connecticut,” said E. Daniel Shim, professor and chair of the Accounting and Information Systems Department. “The Department of Accounting is providing high-quality education with strong career orientation and professional certificates (CPA, CMA, CVA). Faculty members regularly publish articles in top industry journals and present at national and international conferences. The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program provides a 5th-year master degree and attracts outstanding candidates. The MSA candidates report very good passing rates in CPA and CVA exams. This great work has been recognized by Accounting Degree Review, and I expect more external recognition will come for our fine program.”
