Coding Bootcamp Graduate Certificate Program Offers New Possibilities
Those currently pursuing or considering pursuing a career in computer programming have reason to be excited about Sacred Heart University’s new offering. Along with superior education, keeping up to date with the latest computer programming tools will certainly improve job prospects, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook.
Sacred Heart’s new Coding Boot Camp Graduate Certificate Program is aimed at just that. “The certificate is aimed at giving students exposure to a wide array of programming apps and languages in a short time to help them prepare for workplace needs,” says Domenick Pinto, associate professor and chair of SHU’s Computer Science & Information Technology department.
In just two or three trimesters, “students will learn to think like professional coders and write effective, efficient code” through courses in C++, Java, Python, Visual Basic .NET, and C# programming, among others, Pinto says.
“The need for effective programmers is growing rapidly,” he adds. Those looking to accelerate or even change their careers will find in the Coding Boot Camp Graduate Certificate Program a welcome strategy: not only can this certificate be completed by those with a bachelor’s degree in any field—but all courses taken for graduate credit can be applied to the full master’s in computer science and IT (MSCSIT).
“That students can apply the certificate toward the MSCIT makes this different from many other similar programs,” Pinto notes.
The program requires the student to complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours of course work with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Two prerequisites courses are required: Introduction to Structured Programming and Data Structures.
“This Coding Boot Camp Graduate Certificate Program adds another robust option to the versatile Computer Science department at Sacred Heart,” Pinto concludes.
