News Story: March 4, 2015

Sacred Heart University has named Douglas J. Manoni ’84 to its Board of Trustees, the institution’s top governing body. Manoni is chief executive officer of SourceMedia, a digital media company and provider of timely and essential information, research and marketing services for the financial services, health care and technology industries. SourceMedia is the publisher of American Banker, The Bond Buyer, Mergers & Acquisitions, Financial Planning, On Wall Street, Accounting Today, Health Data Management and Employee Benefit News, among many other market-leading brands.

In his 25-year career in media and information publishing, Manoni has built a track record as an innovative leader and dealmaker, managing nearly 100 transactions valued at approximately $1 billion. He was named CEO of SourceMedia in 2010 after joining the company in late 2008 in the capacity of executive vice president and managing director. An expert in applying transformative strategies, he is committed to strengthening SourceMedia’s position as a digital media company and specialized provider of high-value content, with deep audience engagement. An essential component of the company’s transformation has been the development of its digital, research and expanded marketing services capabilities.

Prior to joining SourceMedia, Manoni founded Wicks Business Information (WBI) in partnership with a private-equity firm, the Wicks Group of Companies. As CEO of WBI, he set the company’s strategy and was involved in all aspects of its operations, acquisitions and integration. The business was sold, in two principal transactions, to Dow Jones & Company in 2004 and Summit Business Media in 2007.

Prior to forming WBI, he was COO and CFO of Cowles Business Media (CBM) and subsequently held the position of chief financial officer at Primedia Enthusiast Publications after CBM was sold to Primedia. Over his 10-year tenure with Cowles and Primedia, Manoni helped acquire and manage a diverse media portfolio comprising business-to-business and special interest consumer information services.

He is a longtime member of American Business Media (ABM) and currently serves as chairman of the industry association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Software & Information Industry Association (now merged with ABM), the Business Press Educational Foundation and a small emerging technology company. Other former affiliations include the Magazine Publishers Association, the Society for Independent Show Organizers and the Specialized Information Publishers Association. He speaks frequently at industry events and is a regular contributor to industry publications and forums.

He is a graduate of Sacred Heart University and received SHU’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2014. He and his wife Gina raised their three sons, John, Nicholas and Justin in Trumbull.
