In Memoriam: Dr. Sylvia Watts

Sylvia Watts

Sylvia A. Watts, age 78 of Norwalk, died on September 28, 2014, at Norwalk Hospital. Born in Yonkers, NY, the daughter of Anthony and Sylvia (Delbango) DePhillips, she was the beloved wife of John W. Watts for over 55 years. Raised in Baltimore, Sylvia was a graduate of The College of Notre Dame, Maryland and earned her EdD from Columbia University. She worked as an educator, first at Central Catholic High School in Norwalk for 12 years, then at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield for over 30 years. She was a member of various academic associations and was the longtime director of the Academic Incentive Program at Sacred Heart University. She enjoyed animals, traveling to their vacation homes in Vermont and South Carolina, and especially loved her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by 2 sons: John Anthony Watts of Fairfield and Robert Watts and his wife Amy of Milford, 5 cherished grandchildren; Elizabeth, John- “JP”, Katie, Megan and Nicholas Watts, and many other loving relatives. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law Karen L. Rydz Watts.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 2, from 4 to 8 PM at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, Oct 3, at St. Jerome Church, 23 Half Mile Rd. Norwalk, with burial to follow at St. John Cemetery. Norwalk.
